The Year of The Movies

Bridge to Terrabithia
TSE Verdict : I didn’t know what this movie is about – expecting it to be something like Chronicles of Niamah Narnia. I was dead wrong. This is a slow paced movie meant for kids only or young at heart. I understood the movie days only after I’ve watched it. Ok, I was that slow.

Protégé
TSE Verdict : I’m a fan of Hong Kong movies especially those related to triads and tribulations. It has its moments but this doesn’t even come close to the uber trilogy; Infernal Affairs. Skip if you have to.

Ghost Rider
TSE Verdict : Only good if you’re a sucker for action movies. It would have been better if the hero is not God’s ugliest creation.

300
TSE Verdict : Über-cool movie of the year. Lots of abs. Very artistic filmography. Superb storyline. Best fight/war scene. The God of gods is gay. Three hundred good looking hunks and lots of abs. But I’ve already said that.

Shrek the 3rd
TSE Verdict : Maybe I lost my humor the day I watched this movie. Perhaps my expectation is way up there. Could be that I was darn tired too. And so I thought the 3rd sequel is recycled theme. Nothing new. The only saving grace was the scene of a dying frog king. I laughed the loudest at that one and but it just went down right after. Watch it just for the sake of watching.

Resident Evil : Extinction
TSE Verdict : I have enjoyed RE 1 and 2 and can’t wait for the return of kick-ass Milla. I’m warming up for September 2007.

Ratatouille
TSE Verdict : This is a Pixar/Disney (read: one genius Jobs at the helm) collaboration about rat who has an expensive taste. Yet to be shown at the cinemas here, but if news are to be believed – it will reach our shore August this year.

Transformers
TSE Verdict : For all that hype, I’m saving every sen now to afford myself the RM10 ticket this July. Or you could buy me one :)

Further note : Finally watched it and what can I say? The gadgetry and CGI simply blew me up, up and away into Cloud 9 . I couldn't remember much about Transformers. I watched lots of Voltron back then but the movie is worth every sen I paid for. Transformers wowed me from start till end and all the funny lines really tickled me. Shia LeBouf is well-casted for the character. The only complain I have is the good-vs-evil robots war was lengthy. I really mean, lengthy.

Still, this is currently the Movie of the Year for me, thus delegating 300 to Position No.2.

TMNT : Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
TSE Verdict : No comment. Not going to watch. Never liked TMNT.

Fantastic Four : Rise of the Silver Surfer
TSE Verdict : No verdict yet. Still another month to wait but I wish Jessica Alba will do her clothes-off act again.

Further Note : Yes I enjoyed watching FF - but the baddies are kind of funny. It's like they're not evil enough. Still, it's a better watch than Shrek the 3rd.

Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix
TSE Verdict : Potter will be back to grace the big screen. Hopefully with lots of crazy hormones thrown in :) We'll wait and see.

Further Note : I was one of the kiasu to purchase the movie tickets like 5 days before the screening. Hah! This sequel is slightly serious than the earlier Potter movies -Potter's influenced by Voldermort (yeah I dare say the name of you-know-who). Reminds me so much of Lord of the Rings when Frodo got influenced by the Sauron. Go watch it.

Die Hard 4.0
TSE Verdict : Sylvester Stallone did Rocky Balboa. Harrison Ford will do Indiana Jones one more time (hopefully, the last). And now Bruce Willis is not willing to mati keras. What does that tell me? They need cash. Badly.

Further Note : I must say that Die Hard 4.0 is a superb come back from Bruce Willis. How the duck he managed to look as good as he was in Die Hard with a vengeance is beyond me - probably he went botox-ing eh?

Pirates of the Carribean : At World’s End
TSE Verdict : My darling actor Johhny Depp will revive his Captain Sparrow-is-the-new-hero act, so you can bet I’m going to watch this twice, at least. Just can't wait!

Further Note : For a 3-hour long movie, Pirates managed to keep me seated and NOT yawning, not even once, for the entire show. The plot is suspenseful enough to keep you guessing and guessing until the last part. The only drawback for me is Sparrow uttered his "savvy" tagline only once. Spot it if you can. :)

The Number 23
TSE Verdict : The truth is I'm a sucker for dramas and psychological thriller. Read : This movie spooked me out of my chair. Add in Jim Carrey to the spooky picture. Read : I have always loved Carrey since the dawn of The Mask (although I think the greatest piece he has done is The Truman Show). The sum of it all is called one brilliant movie. The truth will get you. The movie will get you.
